Ferdinand Schwarz

Ferdinand Schwarz is interested in seemingly simple sounds, that he deploys in the design of compositions and communal listening practices.

Ferdinand is interested in approaching listening as an active conditions, a creative and contingent tool for states of magnified presence and self-experience. Much of his work progressively zooms into rigorously reduced sonic material and thereby uncovers our interaction with sounds – observing ourselves observing, listening to ourselves listening.

His solo project Do You Hear What I Hear? is a performance-installation utilizing psychoacoustics and the experience of space via listening with a self-built instrument made of multiple air-pressure machines, tubes, and melodicas.

Since 2023 he hosts the regular Sounding Listening Sessions where communal listening practices are explored.
